This is a recording of our meeting on November 12, 2024. The primary topic was the residential development proposed for 901 Monroe Street NE. Horning and Menkiti Group are proposing to build a 230-unit apartment building at this corner. Over ten years ago, the same developers proposed a similar mixed-use development at this site, but the zoning approval for the project was ultimately vacated by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the property has sat vacant ever since.
At the meeting, we invited the Horning/Menkiti development team to present an overview of their proposed project. We also invited residents adjacent to the proposed project (i.e., “200-footers”, as they are sometimes called) to share their views of the proposed project. Following these presentations, the community had an opportunity for questions and discussion.
